LPU:A Mission not A Business

A journey that started with a father’s expression of his dream, today comes out to fulfill dreams of many. Lovely Professional University, is what is talked about here. Yes, an attempt to fulfil father’s (Late Shri Baldev Raj Mittal) dream brought ,Chancellor, Mr. Ashok Mittal , to own a huge University of more than 550 acres and more than 1000 professional courses under name of Lovely Professional University. A chance to interview him was like a dream come true.

The insights that he took me through made me believe that hardwork gets definitely paid some day. He said that as a part of his father’s dream to give back something to society, the story of Lovely Institute began. The efforts put by Mittal family as a whole made me spellbound. The challenge had begun with the very thought of entering into educational industry of which Mr. Ashok Mittal had no clue before starting. However If talked about of it now less would know that it was started by an entrepreneur(Mr.Ashok Mittal) who diversified from sweets business to successfully establishing Lovely Autos and then educational institute.

The most challenging task was to transform Lovely Institute to Lovely Professional University which took a period of three long years. The challenges faced by him were to convince various authorities about their conviction, to make others realize their dreams and for getting approval of their project to be converted from Lovely Institute to Lovely Professional University. His keenness to interact with students can be easily understood by the warm welcome he extended and the interesting experiences he shared. Interacting with students is the best part of his job that he enjoys most , which gave me the reason to believe for his popularity amongst students.

When denoted LPU as business, he quickly corrected me to call it as mission which was started by his father to pay back to society. And indeed Lovely professional University started as a mission now is pride not only of Jalandhar and Phagwara but whole Punjab is proud to have this No.1 University as part of it.
First time in my life, I realised that how ambitious and dedicated one needs to be, to be the best. The whole interview was a learning experience for me and would be with me as an inspiration throughout my life. For this I really want to thank Mr. Ashok Mittal for enlightening me with his experiences worth million dollars!!!!
